In our first ever Open Day we've got a huge charity raffle with all the proceeds going towards BBC Children in Need.

BBC Children in Need is an annual British charity appeal organised by the BBC. Since 1980 it has raised £470 million.
As a result of the tremendous support we've received from supporters all across the UK, we had a record breaking year. The 2007 Appeal raised over £37 million which is already starting to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.
Also, two schools in Hertfordshire have been finding out more about the projects we have funded this year. Both schools are part of BBC's School Report and on finding out that £20 million had been distributed to projects from our first grant round in March 2008, five pupils from Bishop Hatfield's Girls School visited Woodfield After School Club- a project helping students with severe learning difficulties in Hemel Hempstead. Also, to find out more about the charity and the role of the charity's Chief Executive Officer, eight pupils from Simon Balle School in Hertford emailed our very own David Ramsden with some very interesting questions. Listen to the student's report on Woodfield and read the interview with David on the School Report website.
Our mission is to positively change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. Our vision is a society where each and every child and young person is supported to realise their potential.
In 2007 the BBC Children in Need Appeal raised over £37 million and for every penny donated to the charity, a penny will go towards projects helping disadvantaged children in the UK. We are able to make this promise because the charity uses its investment income to cover all opeational costs. Every year, thanks to public donations and the amazing efforts of fundraisers, schools, businesses and our corporate partners, we are able to provide support to thousands of youngsters aged 18 and under.
We provide this support in the form of grants to organisations working with children who may have experienced mental, physical or sensory disabilities; behavioural or psychological disorders; are living in poverty or situations of deprivation; or suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.
The size and scale of the BBC Children in Need Appeal means that we're able to give grants to hundreds of different organisations, some of which are very small and don't have the resources to fundraise for themselves.
The charity operates all year round, not just the months leading up to Appeal night, and our staff around the UK process thousands of applications for funding. Every year the funding requests exceed the amount of money raised so we carefully assess all applications to ensure that grants are targeted on areas of real need. Voluntary committee members, based in each region, draw on their expertise and local knowledge to advise our board of Trustees which projects should receive grants, and funds are allocated geographically to ensure that all corners of the UK get a share of the money raised.
The BBC Children in Need Appeal is a registered charity: in England and Wales number 802052, in Scotland number SC039557 and is constituted as a company limited by guarantee, registered number 4723022. BBC Children in Need is a member of the Institute of Fundraising and Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB). This means we've signed up to the Fundraising Promise committing us to treat the public with respect, fairness, honesty and clarity in all our fundraising activities. For more information please visit the FRSB website.
